Dr. Jennifer Merckel ~ Vet of the Month

This month, we’re thrilled to highlight Dr. Jennifer Merckel as our Vet of the Month! Dr. Merckel brings compassion, curiosity, and a deep commitment to patient care to every exam room she walks into. Her passion for veterinary medicine shines through in the way she connects with families, supports her team, and advocates for the pets she cares for.

Dr. Merckel's path to veterinary medicine began long before she ever wore a white coat. She remembers being the child at family gatherings who could always be found on the floor cuddling the reluctant family chihuahuas. That early love for animals, combined with a fascination for medicine, naturally shaped her into the veterinarian she is today.

Caring for pets is more than a job—it’s a privilege. She values the chance to build relationships with each family and help them keep their beloved pets healthy for as long as possible. To her, it’s never “just a dog” or “just a cat.” Every pet holds a special place in their family’s life, and hearing those stories is one of the most rewarding parts of her day. Being trusted as part of a pet’s care team is what makes coming to work each day truly meaningful for Dr. Merckel.

She loves being part of a collaborative network of doctors and nurses who lead with empathy, teamwork, and a “how can we help?” mindset. Whether sharing insight, tackling a tough case, or supporting each other during busy days, the culture at PWC reminds her why she chose this profession.

Fun Fact: Dr. Merckel is a second-generation Colombian American, and although she says her Spanish “isn’t perfect,” she loves collaborating with her Spanish-speaking team members to serve Spanish-speaking clients. She believes that a shared love of animals brings people together, and she’s proud to help create a more inclusive environment for the families she serves.
