With the weather warming up and summer just around the corner, you’re probably spending more time outdoors with your furry friends. But the great outdoors can pose a threat to your pets. Grassy and wooded areas are crawling with those critters called ticks, which carry life-threatening illnesses like Lyme disease.

When most people think about ticks, they imagine they attack only during camping, hiking and hunting trips. But ticks can also lurk in your backyard. If you notice any of these symptoms in your pet, chances are likely that they have a tick attached to them:

• Fever
• Abnormal gait or stance
• Joint swelling
• Decreased activity
• Loss of appetite

Any of these warning signs warrant a professional exam. And if you find a tick on your pet, you should take them to the vet for proper removal as soon as possible.

You can also take preventative measures..
