Dr. Lisa Eller’s path to veterinary medicine began on a farm in northern Hamilton County, where she grew up surrounded by horses, chickens, dogs, cats, and, at times, sheep and cattle. From an early age, she loved both animals and science. While every animal on the farm played a role in her upbringing, it was the horses and dogs that truly inspired her to become a veterinarian.
That passion led her to earn her veterinary degree from Purdue University and begin a career that has spanned clinical practice, education, and leadership. From owning her own small animal and equine practice to teaching future veterinary professionals and leading veterinary teams, she has dedicated nearly four decades to animal care. Today, she serves as Chief Veterinary Officer for Pet Wellness Clinics.
Dr. Eller graduated from Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987, a milestone that launched a career in veterinary. For 25 years, she owned and operated her own small animal and equine practice in Arthur, Illinois, where she cared for both small animals and horses in her community. She also spent eight years teaching veterinary technology at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, helping prepare the next generation of veterinary professionals.
When Dr. Eller and her husband, Gary, returned to Hamilton County, Pet Wellness Clinics gained not just a veterinarian, but an emerging leader. In 2025, she was appointed Chief Veterinary Officer, bringing decades of clinical experience and leadership to the role.
Dr. Eller's career has included caring for both small animals and horses, teaching future veterinary professionals, and leading veterinary teams. Throughout it all, she has remained focused on helping pets live healthier lives and supporting the people who love them.
When asked what she enjoys most about veterinary medicine, Dr. Eller points to the human-animal bond:
“The [human-animal] bond has become such a vital part of our society. I, myself, cannot imagine a world without pets, so I love helping pets be healthy and happy…so they can help their people be healthy and happy.”
That perspective has guided her throughout her career and continues to shape the care she provides today.
In addition to working with pets and clients, Dr. Eller says one of her favorite parts of veterinary medicine is working alongside the Pet Wellness Clinics team.
“We have the best staff — from veterinary assistants to veterinary technicians to veterinarians to our management team. I’m honored to be a part of this awesome group of veterinary professionals.”
Dr. Eller values the teamwork that goes into every patient visit. She recognizes the important role each team member plays in providing quality care and creating a positive experience for pets and their families.
One fun fact about Dr. Eller: she owns a 1987 El Camino named Leonard. Like many of her hobbies and interests, it's something she enjoys sharing stories about.
Outside of work, Dr. Eller enjoys spending time with her husband Gary, their Jack Russell terrier Johnny, and their Belgian horses. She also enjoys gardening, running, and kayaking.
Thank you, Dr. Eller, for your leadership, mentorship, and dedication to our patients, clients, and teams. Congratulations on being named our June 2026 Veterinarian of the Month.
