National Pet Preparedness Month

Is Your Pet Ready for Anything?

Emergencies can happen fast. Thunderstorms strike, power goes out, or a tornado warning sends everyone scrambling for the basement. While you might have your emergency kit ready to go, don’t forget the VIPs of your household… your Very Important Pets.

June is National Pet Preparedness Month, the perfect time to make sure your pet is ready for the unexpected.

Pack Your Pet's Go Bag

If you had to leave home in a hurry, would your pet have what they need? Make a kit just for them with:

  • Food and bottled water
  • A leash, harness, and carrier
  • Veterinarian contact information (hospital name and phone number)
  • Medications and medical records*
  • Waste bags, litter, and cleaning supplies
  • A blanket or toy for comfort
  • A recent photo of your pet in case you're separated

*Download the PetPage App for easy access to important health information during emergencies— right at your fingertips, as long as you have cell or internet service. But don’t forget to keep a printed copy in your emergency kit too, just in case!

Keep Your Pet's ID Up to Date

Double check your pet’s microchip info and ID tags. If you’ve moved, changed phone numbers, or adopted recently, now’s the time for an update. A current photo is also helpful in case you need to share it with local shelters or post online.

Emergency Weather Tips

Tornado alerts, heavy storms, and power outages are all part of life here — and while most families stay put during these events, it’s still important to have a plan. Making sure your pet’s essentials are packed and accessible means you’ll be ready to act quickly and keep them safe, no matter what the forecast brings.
